When you get over the age of 60 it becomes quite hard to source travel insurance. The older you get the fewer policies you will be eligible for.
Sadly some travel insurers see older people as a health risk and more so particularly if they have medical conditions. Instead of looking at people as individuals these age based discrimination are applied.
The following medical conditions are usually reason for a refusal of cover.
- Heart attack
- Heart conditions
- Stroke history
- Kidney and Lung disease
- Cancers and Tumors
- Transplant patients
The list goes on. Many people with these conditions have had treatment or are living with the medical problem and know how to cope with it. In our opinion this makes them a better risk than someone who is unaware they have one of these conditions or problems.
Thankfully there are companies out there who are able to obtain terms and cover. Sometimes a pre-existing medical condition is excluded and sometimes you can obtain restricted or reduced cover but they key thing is that you can get cover and still at reasonable prices.
We suggest you talk with a travel insurance specialist rather than someone who happens to be selling you travel insurance as a sideline. You really need an independent insurance advisor who can talk to the underwriters about your condition and obtain a suitable policy for you.
Delta Insurance are one of the companies we have found to offer reasonable rates and cover to people over the age of 60 and they can also cover OAP’s for long trips, annual policies and world wide destinations. We suggest you give them a call to discuss you medical problems and they will sort you out with a suitable insurance plan.
There are also many other providers online, but make sure they are specialists in high risk medical conditions and problems and can discuss your needs with an underwriter rather than just relying on an inflexible automated quotation system.
