You can’t beat the taste of freshly picked herbs. Having a small window box or pot near the kitchen allows even the smallest gardens to produce a good supply of useful fresh herbs.
Herbs are generally very tolerant of drought and will survive without much attention. Most prefer well drained soil so a terracotta pot or well drained planter will suffice. Place some big stones, gravel or broken pots in the bottom to aid drainage.
TIP: Label your herb garden so you can remember which one is which. After a short while you will easily identify the herbs but in the meantime you don’t want to get them mixed up.
Caution: Mint is very invasive. If grown in the garden it will spread and is very hard to eradicate. Mint also prefers different conditions to most other herbs so we suggest that you grow it in a container on its own.
