You don’t need an orchard to grow your own fruit. Many varieties of fruit are suitable for the amateur grower. You can even grow  fruit in a hanging basket or window box!

A container full of strawberry plants will reward you with fresh, tasty and unlike many supermarket strawberries, fully ripe fruits. Kids love eating fruit they’ve picked themselves. Strawberries are also a great starting point for growing your own fruit.

If you are new to fruit gardening we would suggest starting with soft fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries etc. If you want to move on to growing hard fruit such as apples, pears, oranges, lemons etc then be sure to read the relevant article before buying  fruit plants.
