video cd
will not play in Microsofts Media player. |
Try other software players -
I have known video cd's to play fine on older versions of media player
and crash when used with later versions. Most software DVD players
will cope but try downloading an alternative player such as GDivx
Player - have a look on this
link for some other players to download. Perhaps a player
was included with your sound card or your graphics card - so you
may find you already have one or two to choose from. |
One
of the two disks will not play. |
Make sure that there are no scratches
on the disk and that they are free from dust. I recommend cleaning
it with neat alcahol (if it doesn't work you can drink it - only
joking!) Again try different players as some copy protection can
upset certain players. |
How
do I play video cds in Media Player? |
You need to go up to open and
select the drive the disk is in. There is usually a folder name
MPEGAV which contains the file. Open this folder and it will appear
empty you have to go down to the all files of type: Box and select
ALL FILES not all media files and a file or two with a .DAT extension
will appear - this is the movie. Sometimes the first is a short
trailer or adverts. The file is usually called AVESEQ.dat or MUSIC01.DAT. |
video cd
stops playing after 5 mins |
This is really annoying - it
is usually down to a damaged or scratched disk. Sometimes you
can skip over the first 7 minutes and the rest of the film is
fine. Cleaning the disk is about the only thing that can be done. |
There
are 2 soundtracks playing one in English and one is Chinese! |
A few disks have two soundtracks
- one is on the left channel and one is on the right channel.
To enjoy the movie you have to turn off either the left or right
channel (on your speakers or in your soundcard settings!) If this
is the case we will always put a note on the review
we post. |
Picture
but no sound or sound and no picture. |
This is usually down to a hardware
problem or the way the player software has been installed. A faulty
disk will either play the sound AND picture badly or not play
either. Check all of your leads and try testing with another video cd. |
Lip
Sync problems |
If you are using a slow machine
or system resources are low the lip sync can be affected and sometimes
the picture will pause while it catches up. Set your systems role
in control panel to network server and this will give you slightly
better performance. Some disks have bad encoding and the lip sync
gets worse the nearer to the end of the disk you get but it is
never out more than a second or two. |
