Planet of the apes

An entertaining film - although not one I would rave about and would certainly recommend to die hard Planet of the Apes fans but it had all the essentials for a movie of this genre - a bit of action a good effects, funny moments and a brilliant soundtrack!

The Planet of the Apes was one of the most eagerly awaited films that sadly does not measure up to all of the hype that it received. Perhaps the Director was a little ambitious.

The Good stuff:

  • The pace was very quick and this movie covers a lot of material in a relatively short time.
  • The make up and special effects and on location shoots is brilliant throughout
  • There were a few very entertaining moments
  • The 'monkey walk' may even catch on.

The bad stuff

  • The crowd scenes were a little too crowded.
  • The pace was sometimes too fast
  • The final ending is unnecessary and ruins the film.
  • On the whole the movie seems like a rushed job - the idea had not been finished and large chunks were predicatable.

When you have watched this movie you are left wondering what the point of it is and it will make much more sense if you have watched the excellent - ORIGINAL planet of the APES series which is also available on DVD to maximise your enjoyment of this movie - do not watch the last 62.8 seconds of it..(DVD Review submitted by Will Vatcher - thanks Will.)

Picture:

 Picture Quality was good the encoding provided a clear picture.

Sound:

 The sound clarity was excellent and crisp throughout the film.

Overall:

 A fair popcorn movie for older members of the family (12+).

Notes:

The film comes on 2 disks in a presentation folder - running time was 116 minutes. The extra features are a making of documentary which is fairly interesting. The sound is in HI-FI Stereo and the distributer is VideoVan on the 20th Century Fox entertainment label.
