The games that I am waiting for are Broken Sword 3 and Sam & Max 2 - the best adventure series ever devised. BS1 & 2 was challenging, original and in 2D the sequel promises more of the same in glorious 3D and it was always fairly clear what the next thing you had to do was unlike some modern adventure games.

The Monkey Island series was good but I never really got into it and another adventure game I started but got stuck in was Starship titanic - it's very easy to give up early on in a game but it does pay to persevere that is why a guide is invaluable as it gets you past the bit you are stuck on and allows you to go on and finish the game yourself - or until you get stuck the nex time around.

Do not be tempted to read all of the solutions to a game in the book - take it step by step and scan through from the beginning until you find a task you haven't done yet - flick through it quickly to get a rough idea and then have a go at the game again - if you still can't crack it then you can go back to the book and re read it thoroughly taking it through step by step. That way you still have the benefit of the game and it retains its entertainment value - some guides warn you of teh spoilers and others only give sketchy details to enable you to retain the fun element of working things out for yourself.

Other types of game like a driving simulation you will benefit from tips to improve your technique and you can hone your skills but I would not recommend doing this until you are starting to get a little bored with the game or are frustratingly stuck.
